In 2018, we were commissioned to develop a bushcraft and survival tool for British special forces. After extensive conversations, it was evident that our Bran, with some modifications, was up to the task. We produced a small batch, and over the next 12 months, they underwent rigorous testing in the harshest conditions worldwide. Originally designed to meet our needs during our time as Survival Instructors, Bran proved its mettle and we are proud to say we have supplied over 100 units to multiple special forces units from multiple nations.
Bran stands as the epitome of versatility and performance in bushcraft knives. Esteemed by seasoned bushcraft and survival instructors, its acclaim is earned through rigorous testing in diverse global environments—from the jungles of Central America to military operations in the Middle East. Undergoing extensive testing by multiple special forces worldwide, Bran has proven itself as a survival tool and trials of military service in more recent ongoing conflicts. More than just a knife, Bran is your reliable partner in outdoor adventures and survival endeavours. With a 4-inch, 30mm wide blade featuring a true Scandinavian grind, a choked-up guard for increased stability and power, and optional steel pommel cap and lanyard tubes, Bran is meticulously crafted to excel in battening and major power strokes, ensuring it remains your trusted companion in the wild.
Why isn’t it a fighting knife?
The deliberate choice of Bran not being classified as a fighting knife is rooted in a strategic design philosophy—prioritizing its role as a survival tool over combat-centric functionality. In crafting Bran, our primary focus was on creating a versatile and reliable companion for bushcraft and survival scenarios. A dagger, with its emphasis on combat applications, often falls short of fulfilling the multifaceted demands of a survival tool. Bran’s design, born out of our experience as Survival Instructors, reflects the understanding that survival situations frequently involve a broad spectrum of tasks beyond combat. These can range from shelter construction and fire building to food preparation and everything else operating in a wild environment may throw at you. A survival tool should excel in these diverse applications, requiring features like a robust blade, precise control, and adaptability to different cutting tasks. The decision to prioritize survival functionality ensures that Bran remains effective in the broader context of outdoor adventures, making it a dependable partner beyond combat scenarios.
